Heidi Knightley BSc, DipEventMgmt - Nursing Manager & Head Veterinary Nurse

Heidi is a qualified small animal and equine veterinary nurse, and has Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. Heidi has been part of our team since March 2015 after working at another local clinic for 7yrs, and previously at a large multi-branch vet clinic in southern Sydney for 4 years. Heidi is frequently found to be travelling away from the clinic presenting to her peers at nursing conferences Australia wide.

Heidi grew up on a 150 acre horse stud in Albion Park, so has a lifetime experience with animals great and small. Heidi has a particular interest in orthopaedics, animal nutrition, exotics medicine, mentoring new staff & online marketing. Heidi is one of our trained Laser technicians and holds certificates in Medical Laser safety and Therapeutic Laser use in Companion Animals from the American Institute of Medical Laser Applications.

Heidi currently lives with her husband on acreage with her two dogs, 'Bundy', a Cattle x and 'Kelsie', a Kelpie, and her horse, 'Princess'. In her spare time Heidi enjoys horse riding, dancing and reading. Heidi is soon to commence her certificate in Training and Assessment to allow her to pursue her second passion of teaching the new generation of veterinary nurses.

Narelle Wade - Veterinary Nurse

Narelle is our longest serving nursing team member, having been with Cannon & Ball Vets since it opened in 1991. She only works part time now, but remains an incredibly valuable part of our surgical service, caring for all your animals during and after anaesthetics and surgical procedures.

Shauny Salisbury - Senior Veterinary Nurse

Shauny has been with Cannon & Ball since December 2014 after completing work placement with us, and gaining her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing. Shauny grew up with a passion for small animals in a family who owned birds, cats and dogs. In the clinic she enjoys meeting all the new pets and owners, and loves to spend time explaining the veterinary needs for their new pets. Shauny has an interest in learning about all the new & exciting veterinary products and the benefits of these. In her spare time Shauny likes to spend time with her 4 pets ‘Sky’ the boisterous Husky, 'Sox’ a DSH cat, 'Ruby' the Border Collie and 'Titan' the cat!

Chantelle Doyle - Senior Veterinary Nurse

Chantelle is a qualified veterinary nurse and began her nursing career with Cannon & Ball in February 2013. Chantelle spent 2yrs doing work placement at Symbio, and 2yrs working with WIRES rehabilitating many native animals before coming to Cannon & Ball. She has a passion for further education and fills her spare time with additional study in canine behaviour, rehabilitation, grooming, massage/hydrotherapy & herbal medicine.

Chantelle has her Cert II in Animal Studies through Taronga Zoo & Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing. Chantelle has a particular interest in behavioural training working with Naughty Dog School on the weekends. Her little dog ‘Lucey’, accompanies and supervises her on all her adventures. Chantelle has recently welcomed a human child to her family so is back with us on a part-time basis

Erica Fairleigh - Senior Veterinary Nurse

Erica moved to the Illawarra from Mudgee in 2013 to begin a degree in psychology, but her true passion for animal care came calling later in the year. Erica has been employed with Cannon & Ball since November 2014, and is training to achieve her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing. Erica has a particular passion for wildlife & birds. She has volunteered at the RSPCA, has a certificate in animal first aid and completed her wildlife carers training through WIRES.

Erica currently lives in Corrimal with her lovebird ‘Zazu’, and one day dreams of owning & breeding a variety of birds. In her spare time Erica enjoys cooking/baking, bushwalking, attending live music events and learning about the vastness of the animal kingdom!

Erica is currently 2yrs in completing her Bachelor of Nursing for the human patient at the University of Wollongong.

Hannah Ashford - Veterinary Nurse

Hannah obtained her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2006. Hannah initially worked in the Blue Mountains for 7 years as a vet nurse, then to returned home to Wollongong and spent the next 5yrs working at the local RSPCA shelter. Hannah soon realised her true passion was as a veterinary nurse, and become part of our team in February 2017.  Hannah runs our puppy preschool classes here at the clinic and has a particular interest in dog behaviour. In her spare time Hannah likes hiking, going to the gym and anything to do with the outdoors. Hannah has two pets of her own "Domino" a 13yr old Papillon x, and "Leroy" her  10yr cat.

Katie Johnson - Veterinary Nurse

Katie began work experience with Cannon & Ball in 2016 and has since gained her Certificate in Veterinary Nursing and joined our team at the end of 2017. She has a particular love of Birds and Wildlife and, before coming to Cannon & Ball, spent time raising and rehabilitating native birds with WIRES and learning about the care of our native possums and reptiles.
Katie knew from an early age that she wanted to work in the animal care industry, having grown up with dogs, cats, goats, birds rabbits & mice. When home, she loves spending time with Goose her lorikeet sidekick, her 9 year old kelpie X Gypsy and her colourful flock of chickens & quail.
